The Ecstasies Above
Spring Concert
May 12, 2012
8:00 p.m.
Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church
St. Paul, MN
As spring blossoms, enjoy a breath of fresh air and unleash your spirit to music of the heavens in an exuberant evening of song! Soar into dreams of flight in Leonardo Dreams of His Flying Machine by Whitacre. Evoking a Tuscan sunrise, Magnum Chorum creates dreamy, ancient sounds that rise and fall as Leonardo takes wing. Our centerpiece is the riveting and unforgettable Ecstasies Above by Tarik O’Regan. Evoking Riverdance, this magnificent setting of Poe’s poem about Israfel “whose heart strings are a lute” features soloists and string quartet. Music by the beloved Kenneth Jennings is featured in Spiritual Songs, brilliantly illuminating the earthy yet divine poetry of George Herbert. Works by Christiansen and Stanford Scriven promise an evening of celestial music at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church.
