Lay a Garland

All Saints Day Concert

October 25, 2008
7:30 p.m.
Chapel of St. Thomas Aquinas
University of St. Thomas
St. Paul, Minnesota

As the fall colors fade, you’ll enter a flourishing landscape of colorful choral works in a bold and evocative program of remembrance for All Saints Day. You’ll hear Howells’ ethereal Take Him, Earth, for Cherishing in his sublime tribute to John F. Kennedy, and the otherworldly Song for Athene by Tavener, in a timeless memorial now famous for its performance at Princess Diana’s funeral. Discover Fern Hill by composer Corigliano of “Red Violin” fame, whose nostalgic setting of poetry by Dylan Thomas is a bittersweet homage to youth long passed. Divine music by Thompson and Pearsall, the playful yet profound Hymn to St. Cecilia by Britten, and Charles Forsberg’s dynamic Exaltation of Christ stir our memories and create a rewarding moment for reflection and renewal at Chapel of St. Thomas Aquinas.
